The ruling on the permissibility of performing 'Umrah on behalf of relatives from al-Tan'im.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Even if a person says, "I will go out for 'Umrah, or to al-Tan'im, for example, to perform 'Umrah for my mother, my father, my uncle, or my maternal uncle," we would tell him: This is also not the way of the Salaf. They did not go out to al-Tan'im in order to perform 'Umrah for their fathers, mothers, paternal uncles, paternal aunts, maternal uncles, or maternal aunts. Rather, when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
When a man dies, his acts come to an end, but three, recurring charity, or knowledge (by which people) benefit, or a pious child, who prays for him (for the deceased). إذا مات الإنسان انقطع عمله إلا من ثلاثة إلا من صدقة جارية أو علم ينتفع به أو ولد صالح يدعو له
Sahih Muslim 1631
, he said this
or a pious child, who prays for him أو ولد صالح يدعو له
Sahih Muslim 1631
, and he did not say, "Or a righteous son performs 'Umrah for him, performs a week of tawaf for him, gives charity for him, or prays for him," even though the context of the hadith is about deeds and explaining which of them benefit the deceased. And yet, the one with prayers and blessings upon him turned away from deeds to supplication. Therefore, we see, and we see that we are, if Allah wills, upon proof from Allah, that supplication for the dead is better for them than that we perform 'Umrah for them or perform a week of tawaf for them, because this is what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) guided us to when he said, "Or a righteous son supplicates for him." Indeed, I, my brothers, in this position and in this place, call you and call myself to insight in the religion of Allah, to walk upon proof rather than taqlid (following a scholar without knowing his evidence), where some of us imitate some of us and some of us walk with some of us, whether guided or not. No, I call myself and you to be with insight in our affairs, with insight in our religion, with insight in what we worship Allah with, and in what we do or leave of words and deeds, until Allah sends down blessing for us in our deeds. For this reason, we find that we multiply our deeds, but do these deeds of ours rectify our hearts? Perhaps they rectify the hearts of whom Allah wills, but their blessing is little upon the hearts, upon morals, and upon proper conduct, because most of our worship—we ask Allah to forgive us for most of it—does not stand in the heart, nor is there complete following in it, and sometimes there is not even complete sincerity. Indeed, I, my brothers, call you to look into the religion and to worship Allah in accordance with the Shari'ah and in accordance with what the righteous Salaf followed, for they are better than us and more eager than us for good.
