The questioner : I noticed before the 'Isha' prayer a group praying with an imam and followers, and when I asked them about this prayer, they said it is the prayer of tasbih, and I understood that they designate it for the twenty-seventh night. Is there any evidence for this?

The Shaykh : First, the prayer of tasbih is not recommended because its hadith is very weak, as mentioned by Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him). He said that its hadith is either false or a result of my forgetfulness, and he stated that none of the imams recommended it. Based on this, it is not prescribed for a person to pray this prayer. Furthermore, designating it for the twenty-seventh night is also an innovation.
