The questioner : May Allah reward the honorableThe Shaykh : It is mentioned in one of the books “that Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) heard the Shaykh al-Islam say: ‘Whoever is consistent in saying Ya Hayy, Ya Qayyum, bi rahmatika astaghith between the Fajr adhan and the iqamah for forty days, his heart will be revived and he will not be punished with the death of the heart’” Is there evidence for this statement, and is it authentic?

The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
I do not know of any evidence for this from the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family). However, it is possible that the Shaykh al-Islam mentioned it as a personal experience, having tried it and observed that consistency in this leads to the life of the heart. Nevertheless, we do not see consistency in this as prescribed unless there is evidence from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), because this is a matter of the unseen and a matter of worship. Matters of the unseen are not accepted except from revelation, and worship is not legislated except through revelation. So if any of you finds evidence from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) for this statement, it is on my eyes and head; otherwise, it is an ijtihad (independent legal reasoning) on his part (may Allah have mercy on him), and we do not accept it for him. Yes.
