The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) mentioned that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) possesses perfect life and that death has no dominion over Him (Exalted and Majestic is He), as He the Exalted said:[Al-Furqan 25:58] Likewise, He possesses the attribute of sustenance among His attributes of sustenance, which is encompassed in His saying, the Exalted: This sustenance prevents sleep, so sleep is impossible for Allah (Mighty and Majestic) due to the perfection of His life and sustenance. For this reason, he said: "Sleep has no visitation with Him" meaning that sleep cannot reach Him due to the perfection of His sustenance. Here, al-Hayy (the Living) contains the perfection of attributes, and al-Qayyum (the Self-Subsisting) contains the perfection of actions. Allah the Exalted said: [Ar-Ra'd 13:33] [Ar-Ra'd 13:33] For this reason, the author (may Allah have mercy on him) said:
"And so all the attributes of perfection *** are established for Him, and their basis is these two attributes"
What are the two attributes? Life and sustenance. All attributes of perfection revolve around these two attributes. In sustenance lies the perfection of attributes, and in... lies the perfection of actions for Allah (Mighty and Majestic). And these two names are the Greatest Name of Allah. They appeared in the Noble Qur'an in three places: in Surat al-Baqarah, Surat Ali 'Imran, and Surat Ta-Ha. So Allah (Mighty and Majestic) said in Surat al-Baqarah:[Al-Baqarah 2:255] And He said in Surat Ali 'Imran: [Al-Baqarah 2:255] And He said in Surat Ta-Ha: [Taha 20:111] Thus, this name was mentioned in the Noble Qur'an in three places, and it is the Greatest Name of Allah, because these two names encompass all the meanings of the names of Allah. The aspect of this is what I explained first: what is it? That al-Hayy encompasses the perfection of attributes, and al-Qayyum encompasses the perfection of actions. Yes.
And He has the will.
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) mentioned that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) possesses perfect life and that death has no dominion over Him (Exalted and Majestic is He), as He the Exalted said:
And rely upon the Ever-Living who does not die
وتوكل على الحي الذي لا يموتthe Sustainer
القيومThen is He who is a maintainer of every soul, [knowing] what it has earned
أفمن هو قائم على كل نفس بما كسبتThen is He who is a maintainer of every soul, [knowing] what it has earned
أفمن هو قائم على كل نفس بما كسبت"And so all the attributes of perfection *** are established for Him, and their basis is these two attributes"
What are the two attributes? Life and sustenance. All attributes of perfection revolve around these two attributes. They appeared in the Noble Qur'an in three places: in Surat al-Baqarah, Surat Ali 'Imran, and Surat Ta-Ha. So Allah (Mighty and Majestic) said in Surat al-Baqarah:
Allah - there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of [all] existence
الله لا إله إلا هو الحي القيومAllah - there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of [all] existence
الله لا إله إلا هو الحي القيومAnd [all] faces will be humbled before the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence
وعنت الوجوه للحي القيومAnd He has the will.
