The questioner : May Allah reward the honorableThe Shaykh : What is the ruling on establishing two congregations in one mosque? The situation is this: I came to your mosque and found that you were in the prayer of tarawih, while another congregation was praying the obligatory prayer. What is the ruling on this action, and should I join the imam or another congregation? And a question from another angle says: We missed the prayer, so the imam said the takbir to pray with us as making up the missed prayer, and then the prayer of tarawih was established. What should we do?

The Shaykh : What is recommended for one who enters while the imam is praying the prayer of tarawih and he has not yet prayed the 'Isha' prayer is that he should join the imam with the intention of 'Isha'. When the imam concludes the prayer, he stands and completes the remainder of his prayer. Imam Ahmad (may Allah have mercy on him) explicitly stated this and said: "He prays tarawih with them with the intention of 'Isha'". This is better than establishing another congregation that prays while the people are praying alone. If that is the case, we say that if a group enters while the imam is praying the prayer of tarawih, the best for them is to join the imam with the intention of 'Isha'. However, if a person begins the 'Isha' prayer, and then during the prayer, meaning the congregation begins the 'Isha' prayer, and during the prayer the imam says the takbir for tarawih, then here we say: proceed with your prayer, because you have begun an obligatory prayer, so do not turn away from it. Yes.
