A word from the Shaykh on reflecting upon the Book of Allah the Exalted.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : O my brothers, it has been our custom to speak, as much as is facilitated, about some of the verses we have heard from the Imam. This is because the Book of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, is not intended for mere recitation only, but rather, along with the recitation or the reward and its recompense, there are two great matters that Allah, Mighty and Majestic, mentioned in His saying:
[This is] a blessed Book which We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], that they might reflect upon its verses and that those of understanding would be reminded. كتاب أنزلناه إليك مبارك ليدبروا آياته وليتذكر أولوا الألباب
[Sad 38:29]
The lam here is for causation and to explain the wisdom behind the revelation of this blessed Qur'an, which is reflection and remembrance. So what is reflection? And what is remembrance? Reflection is pondering the meanings of the noble verses: what is the meaning of this verse? Whether it is a report or a request, meaning whether it is a command, a prohibition, or a report about something that was previously hidden from us or something that will come later. The important thing is that a person should ponder the meaning of the verse. Here we ask: if a person ponders, is he able to interpret the verse according to what his thinking leads him to, or must he have a predecessor in that? Is the question clear? If a person thinks, is he allowed to say the meaning of the verse is such and such according to what his thinking has reached, or must he have a predecessor in that?
