Tafsir of the Qur'an According to the Statements of the Successors.

The Shaykh : As for the fourth rank, it is the tafsir of the Successors who became renowned for taking knowledge from the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them), such as Mujahid ibn Jabr, who took tafsir from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both). He presented the mushaf to him from its beginning to its end, stopping him at every verse and asking him about its interpretation. As for the general body of Successors who did not become renowned for their attention to tafsir, their statements are not referred to, because they are like other scholars in this regard.
