The Categories of Qur'anic Exegesis and Their Examples

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : For this reason, the scholars say: In interpreting the Qur'an, one first refers to the interpretation of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), secondly to the interpretation of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and no interpretation ever contradicts that. Then one refers to the interpretation of the Companions, especially the jurists among them who were concerned with exegesis, such as 'Abdullah ibn 'Abbas. Then one refers to the great scholars of the Tabi'un who received the interpretation of the Qur'an from the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them), such as Mujahid ibn Jabr. So how many ranks are there? How many ranks, my son? To what do we refer in the interpretation of the Qur'an? You did not pay attention.
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : Do not rest, please. Four ranks: First, the interpretation of Allah; second, the interpretation of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him); third.
The student: Then the scholars of the Companions.

The Shaykh : Yes, good. Fourth.
The student: To the imams of the Tabi'un.

The Shaykh : The imams of the Tabi'un who received the interpretation from the Companions. May Allah bless you. Rest. The interpretation of Allah has many examples in the Qur'an:
(17) And what can make you know what is the Day of Recompense? (18) Then, what can make you know what is the Day of Recompense?
[Al-Infitar 82:17-18]
What is the Day of Judgment?
It is the Day when a soul will not possess for another soul [power to do] a thing; and the command, that Day, is [entirely] with Allah.
[Al-Infitar 82:19]
(1) The Striking Calamity - (2) What is the Striking Calamity? (3) And what can make you know what is the Striking Calamity?
[Al-Qari'ah 101:1-3]
What is it?
It is the Day when people will be like moths, dispersed,
[Al-Qari'ah 101:4]
And there are many examples of this. The interpretation of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also has examples, among which is the saying of Allah the Exalted:
For them who have done good is the best [reward] and extra
[Yunus 10:26]
For them who have done good is the best [reward] and extra
[Yunus 10:26]
"Al-Hasanah" is a postponed subject, and "for those" is a preceding predicate. If we say "al-Hasanah" is a postponed subject, then "for those" becomes a preceding predicate, and "ziyadah" is an addition. So what is "al-Hasanah"? And what is the addition? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) interpreted it:
That al-Hasanah is Paradise and that the addition is looking at the Face of Allah, the Most Generous
I ask Allah the Exalted to make me and you successful in that, and to make us among those who see their Lord while He is pleased with them, and who see their Lord while He is pleased with them. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) interpreted it as looking at the Face of Allah. If someone said something about the addition other than what the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said, would we accept it? Answer. Absolutely not, we do not accept it, no matter who it is.
