The Meaning of the Poet's Statement: (Explaining the Ranks of Tafsir of the Noble Qur'an with Examples) Take the Book, interpreting some of it with some, thus *** is the interpretation of the scholars of the Qur'an

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh :"Take the Book, interpreting some of it with some, thus *** is the interpretation of the scholars of the Qur'an"
O Allah, make us among them. The best interpretation is interpreting the Qur'an with the Qur'an. There is no doubt about this, and the reason for this is that the Qur'an was spoken by One. Therefore, when the Speaker interprets His speech, some of it with some, He becomes more knowledgeable about it than anyone else. This is correct.
The student: Yes.

The Shaykh : This is clear. If we do not find an interpretation of the Qur'an by the Qur'an, we turn to the one most knowledgeable about the Qur'an, which is the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). We turn to the interpretation of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and it is not possible for us to deviate from it. In His saying, the Exalted:
For them who have done good is the best [reward] and extra للذين أحسنوا الحسنى وزيادة
[Yunus 10:26]
, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) interpreted it as looking at His Face. We do not deviate from this because the Messenger interpreted it.
prepare against them whatever you are able of power أعدوا ما استطعتم من قوة
[Al-Anfal 8:60]
He said:
Beware, strength consists in archery. ألا إن القوة الرمي
Sahih Muslim 1917
We stop at this. Strength is throwing. Therefore, even now, in modern times, in advanced methods of warfare, throwing is the effective weapon. Bombs, missiles from above or from the side, all this weaponry is stronger than tanks. It is clear that strength is throwing.
If we do not find it in the Sunnah, who are the most knowledgeable people regarding the interpretation of the Qur'an in matters related to acts of worship? The Companions, without doubt. Without doubt, they are the most knowledgeable people regarding acts of worship, more so than others. They are the most knowledgeable people regarding the interpretation of the Qur'an. So we turn to the statements of the Companions. If they differed and there were two opinions, we sought the stronger position.
After that, the scholars differed on whether we should take the statements of the Tabi'un or not. Some said we do not take the statements of the Tabi'un because the Tabi'un did not witness the revelation when it descended, nor were they with the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) such that we could say they understood the meaning of the verse from the Messenger and expressed it with their tongues. They are like others. Some distinguished and said: as for the one known to have received the interpretation from the Companions, we turn to his interpretation, like Mujahid who received it from Ibn Abbas. And as for the one who did not, he is like others.
But we must know an important rule, which is that the closer people are to the time of the Prophethood, the closer they are to the truth regarding matters of creed and acts of worship. Pay attention, this is a known thing. For this reason, the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The best of people are my generation, then those who follow them, then those who follow them خير الناس قرني ثم الذي يلونهم ثم الذي يلونهم
This is an observed reality because those close to the era of the Prophethood have few intermediaries between them and the Prophethood. The Tabi'un have one intermediary between them and the Messenger. The Tabi'un of the Tabi'un have two intermediaries. The Tabi'un of the Tabi'un of the Tabi'un have three, and so on. Then, after the blessed centuries, trials and desires multiplied, and the merchandise of many people became small regarding the Islamic sacred law. So the author said, may Allah have mercy on him:
"Take the Book, interpreting some of it with some, thus *** is the interpretation of the scholars of knowledge and faith"
The student: ...

The Shaykh : Yes.
The student: ...

The Shaykh :"*** the scholars of the Qur'an" Yes, "*** the scholars of the Qur'an"
These are the scholars of the Qur'an, and they are the mufassirun (interpreters) who interpret the Book, some of it with some. And this is obligatory because the Qur'an was spoken by One, so He is more knowledgeable about what He intended in His speech. I think we cannot take the ninth.
