(Explaining that the sustenance of the believer is lawful and forbidden, and that the forbidden is forbidden in itself or otherwise, and that the sustenance of the disbeliever is forbidden, with evidence) This is the lawful sustenance, and our Lord***

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : And based on this, the author (may Allah have mercy on him) says:
"This is the lawful sustenance, and our Lord *** is its Provider, and the grace is for the bestowers
And the second is the distribution of food to the limbs in *** those channels, distributing it by measure
This is from the lawful, just as it *** is from the forbidden; both are sustenance"

Meaning, physical, bodily sustenance can be lawful and it can be forbidden. What carries no liability is lawful, and what carries liability is forbidden. And that which carries liability is sometimes forbidden in itself, and sometimes forbidden due to how it was earned. So dirhams earned through riba (usury or interest) are forbidden.
The student: Due to the earning.

The Shaykh : Due to the earning, and khamr (intoxicants), pork, and carrion are forbidden in themselves. And yet it is called sustenance; it is called sustenance because it is the food that reaches the channels and by which the body lives. Then, regarding this sustenance, we say: is the sustenance of the disbeliever forbidden or lawful?
The student: Forbidden.

The Shaykh : Forbidden. The sustenance of the disbeliever is forbidden; it is not lawful for him. Allah the Exalted said:
There is not upon those who believe and do righteousness [any] blame concerning what they have eaten
[Al-Ma'idah 5:93]
There is no blame on those who
upon those who believe and do righteousness [any] blame concerning what they have eaten
[Al-Ma'idah 5:93]
meaning, and their opposite.
The student: There is blame on them.

The Shaykh : There is blame on them for what they ate. And He the Exalted said:
Say, "Who has forbidden the adornment of Allah which He has produced for His servants and the good [lawful] things of provision?" Say, "They are for those who believe during the worldly life [but] exclusively for them on the Day of Resurrection."
[Al-A'raf 7:32]
for those who believe during the worldly life [but] exclusively for them on the Day of Resurrection
[Al-A'raf 7:32]
for those who believe during the worldly life [but] exclusively for them on the Day of Resurrection
[Al-A'raf 7:32]
As for the one who did not believe, it is not pure for him on the Day of Resurrection, even if it was for them in this world. And for this reason, we say that the disbeliever will not raise a mouthful to his mouth or a sip of water without being reckoned for it on the Day of Resurrection and punished for it. Why? Because he is a disbeliever. How can he enjoy the blessings of Allah and confront Him with disbelief? Yes, he says:
"This is from the lawful, just as it *** is from the forbidden; both are sustenance"
And this is also considered with regard to humans and with regard to animals. Even animals have physical sustenance by which their body and frame live.
And there is no creature on earth but that upon Allah is its provision
[Hud 11:6]
