What is the ruling on a person traveling alone without a companion on a long journey, and are there any hadiths that prohibit a person from traveling alone?

The questioner : May the Shaykh be respected, I ask about the ruling on a person traveling alone without a companion on a long journey, and are there any hadiths that prohibit a single person from traveling?

The Shaykh : Yes, it is reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
A single rider is a devil, and a pair of riders are a pair of devils, but three are a company of riders. الراكب شيطان ، والراكبان شيطانان ، والثلاثة ركب
Sunan Abi Dawud 2607Hasan (Al-Albani)
This indicates caution against a person traveling alone, but this applies to journeys where the road is not heavily traveled. As for journeys where the road is heavily traveled, such that you are in the middle of a city, like the road from al-Qassim to Riyadh, or from Riyadh to Dammam, or similar roads where there are many travelers, and like the road in the Hijaz during the peak seasons, this is not considered traveling alone in reality, because people pass by it frequently. So he is alone in his car, but not alone in the journey, for people are around him, behind him, and in front of him at every moment.
