The Form of the Supplication for Travel
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
We traveled from al-Qassim to Riyadh on a journey the day before yesterday; two questions became unclear to us and our brothers,We say: When is the supplication for travel said? Is it when leaving the city or when mounting the mount? And when we returned from Riyadh, the young men differed regarding the place where the supplication for travel is said,So some said: The place is when we overlook the city—Unaizah—and see it; because that is what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did, as they claim,And some of them said: Rather, the place is when we leave Riyadh heading to al-Qassim, and the context of the hadith indicates this, where he (peace and blessings be upon him) said in this supplication: (O Allah, we ask You for righteousness and piety in this journey of ours) and he said: (O Allah, You are the companion in the journey and the successor among the family) How can one say this when he has finished his journey and arrived at his family? Please advise us, may you be rewarded.
The transmitted supplication is recited when one mounts a mount or a car, because of His saying, the Exalted: [Surah al-Zukhruf: 12-13] meaning: what He has made for us of ships and livestock, and now we are riding ships, but it is a land ship,And ships are of three types: land, sea, and air, and in the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), only the sea kind was known, but now it has diversified in this way,So when he is carried on it, he recites the dhikr and says: (O Allah, You are the companion in the journey and the successor among the family) As for when one returns, he says: (We are returning, repenting, worshipping our Lord, and praising) when he turns back from the city he returned from and upon seeing his city.
So the first is said only during the journey, but (We are returning, repenting) is said upon return, as for [Surah al-Zukhruf: 13] he says it whenever he mounts a mount, whether in travel or in residence, so if you ride in a car now from your house to the mosque, you say: [Surah al-Zukhruf: 13-14] .
The transmitted supplication is recited when one mounts a mount or a car, because of His saying, the Exalted:
and has made for you of ships and animals those which you mount. (13) That you may settle yourselves upon their backs and then remember the favor of your Lord when you have settled upon them
