(Explanation of the divisions of knowledge, which are three: knowledge concerning Allah, knowledge concerning His rulings, and knowledge of the Hereafter and what occurs therein) And knowledge has three divisions

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh :"And knowledge has three divisions, and it has no fourth, and the truth is one that clarifies"
When the author (may Allah have mercy on him) mentioned that ignorance is a fatal disease and that its cure lies in two matters, and that the scholar is the physician for these two matters, he mentioned that knowledge has three divisions.
"Knowledge of the attributes of the Divine and His action" This is the first: that a person be knowledgeable about the attributes of the Creator and knowledgeable about the actions of Allah. The actions of Allah are among His attributes, but they are from the active attributes. For example, is life an attribute or an action? Life is an attribute, and the Creator is an attribute, and action is an attribute, and action is an action. So knowledge of the attributes that do not extend beyond the one described, or of the actions which are attributes that extend to other than the one described.
"And likewise the names of the Most Merciful"
Likewise, the names of the Most Merciful: His attributes, His actions, and His names. This is the second matter.
"And the command and the prohibition, which is His religion*** And His recompense on the second Day of Return"
These are the divisions of knowledge: knowledge concerning Allah (Mighty and Majestic), His names, His attributes, and His actions; the second is knowledge concerning His rulings, His laws; and the third is knowledge of His recompense, which is knowledge of the Hereafter and what occurs therein. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Surat al-Ikhlas (Sura 112) was equal to a third of the Qur'an إن قل هو الله أحد تعدل ثلث القرآن
Muwatta Malik 15:21
because it is a report about Allah, His names, His attributes, and His actions. What remains are His rulings and His recompense. These are the divisions of knowledge; they have no fourth. The evidence for their being limited to these three divisions, and the evidence for knowledge being limited to these three divisions, is to trace and examine: is there any knowledge that falls outside these three? You will not find any. For this reason, the author affirmed that it has no fourth. The first is knowledge of the names of Allah, His attributes, and His actions; the second is knowledge of His legal rulings by which He has commanded us to worship Him; and the third is knowledge of the recompense that will occur on the Day of Resurrection, which includes everything that will occur on the Day of Resurrection.
