So add to this the generality of the wording and the *** meaning, and good understanding in the Qur'an (The difference between the generality of the wording and the generality of the meaning, and explaining the importance of good understanding)

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh :"So add to this the generality of the wording and the *** meaning, and good understanding in the Qur'an"
That is, add to this principle, which is that what He has been silent about is a dispensation, add to it the generality of the wording and the meaning. For you may find that the ruling of this incident falls under the generality of a wording or the generality of a meaning. The difference between the two: the generality of the wording is what the wording indicates by its material, and the generality of the meaning is what it indicates by its meaning, which is the obvious analogy. For in the obvious analogy, the branch is in agreement with the root in the operative cause, and the operative cause is the meaning that necessitates the ruling. For this reason, we say that generalities are either verbal, which are those indicated by the wording by its material, or semantic, which are those indicated by what? The wording by its meaning. And this is the obvious analogy. This is because in the obvious analogy, the branch and the root are equal. The branch, which is the thing being analogized, and the root, which is the thing being analogized to, are equal in the operative cause, which is the general meaning that necessitates the ruling. He says:
"So add to this the generality of the wording and the *** meaning, and good understanding"
Good understanding is important. How many people understand a thing in a way contrary to what Allah and His Messenger intended? So if a person is granted good understanding, along with strong observation and intelligence, do not ask about his state in hitting the mark of correctness.
