Why do you not incite your students to go to Afghanistan, as long as you see the obligation of jihad there?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : I do not know this question. It was sent to you. Someone says, since...The Shaykh : ...he says that jihad in Afghanistan is obligatory, why did the Salafi brothers not incite to jihad, especially since jihad has now entered its tenth year, and we have not heard of this except this year, and...The Shaykh : ...he is very keen on teaching his students, even to the movement of the finger.

The Shaykh : It appears that...The questioner : ...he is your neighbor, and not your neighbor!

Another questioner : No, he is not my neighbor.

The questioner : He is not my neighbor now.

The Shaykh: I know.

The questioner : But he...

Another questioner : He is sent to, he is dispatched to.

Another questioner : But we are in a style, meaning...

The Shaykh : First, your perception...The Shaykh : ...and his students...

The questioner : But this, Glorified and Exalted is He, this means the question serves as an example...

The Shaykh : Yes, and its answer is as follows.

The questioner : The question, the brother moved... but I added things.

The Shaykh : And the answer is as follows. You imagine that...The Shaykh : ...and his students are not...The Shaykh : ...like the other shaykhs and their students.

The questioner : By Allah, look...

Another questioner : We did not hear, our Shaykh.

The Shaykh: Yes.

Another questioner : We did not hear, our Shaykh.

The questioner : By Allah, the shaykhs of Saudi Arabia envy our Shaykh for his students, where they exaggerate in being polite with him, and we fall short greatly in this. By Allah, they envy us for this.

Another questioner : Forgive us, our Shaykh.

The Shaykh : How so?

The questioner : A word always reaches me, we keep going around it, we say we are with our Shaykh not as people are with their shaykhs; they are polite with their shaykhs and we are not...

The Shaykh : Excuse me, we are brothers.

The questioner : May Allah bless you.

The Shaykh : But my point...

The questioner : We have some leeway with our Shaykh.

The Shaykh : My point in what I wanted to say is that that question stems from...The questioner : ...whoever imagines that...The Shaykh : ...the one to whom the question is directed and his students is like other shaykhs and their students, meaning that he is the one who opens a school and gathers students with a specific official system and delivers lessons to them, and whenever an occasion arises he directs them to it and addresses them and advises them, and so on. Whereas you know that the matter is not so, and the example given by that one who gave it, moving the finger, this did not come from...The Shaykh : ...in his gathering, they say, move your finger.

The questioner : By Allah, we heard it from...The Shaykh .

The Shaykh : It was only known from a book of his, and so is much of the matters...

The questioner : Ah, from a question of his.

The Shaykh : Or yes, the matter of jihad in Afghanistan. First, the news that reached us in this country about Afghanistan was not clear and distinct, and so on. And therefore I did not speak about it, neither here nor there. But when the events there began to become clear, especially in the beginning when it was said that the call or the jihad was Islamic, and that there were Muslim commanders, especially Abu Sayyaf, and especially when I read an article of his published in the Kuwaiti magazine al-Mujtam, and he was speaking about jihad in Afghanistan. He said a phrase that I was pleased with, because this is my call always and forever: that we do not call our jihad a revolution, because there is no revolution in Islam, whereas you find the Islamic groups to this day using this word. So, when the news began to become clear to us, and that there is indeed jihad for Islam and for establishing the rule of Islam, I began to form an opinion. And this opinion does not form as some of the Sufis might imagine, that he sees a dream in the night, morning comes, he adopts what he saw, and the matter is done. Rather, this issue requires thought, and scholars of thought and opinion, and so on.

The questioner : A fateful matter, especially.

The Shaykh: Yes.

The questioner : I say a fateful matter.

The Shaykh : Ah, important. So, since I do not have regular lessons, any new idea cannot be spread among me except on the occasion of one of the occasions. So, since two years or more, I went to Saudi Arabia, I no longer remember well, on the occasion of Hajj or 'Umrah, and the movement of Afghan jihad there filled the ears and minds there, unlike us.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Here, you did not hear of jihad mentioned. So I answered there with what I believed, while speaking about what might surround this jihad of matters, meaning not promising good. Then last year, last Ramadan, we also spoke about jihad, it might have been in the mosque of Muhammad al-Banna, yes, it might have been a thousand people or less or more, I no longer remember. So the questions began to pile up, and I answered with my frank opinion in that, besides the other gatherings that were held there, and the problems and doubts came as you may have heard in our private session with...The Shaykh : ...'Abdullah.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : ...and so on. Then here, some occasions came and we spoke about the matter as required. So our not speaking about this issue is for these reasons that we mentioned just now.
