The questioner : It is mentioned that he is a young man of twenty-four years old who has committed himself to the religion, praise be to Allah, for about ten months. He says: But what worries me is that in the past I used to pray only rarely and I used to fast Ramadan only rarely. I now want to expiate my sin after I have repented to Allah with a sincere repentance, praise be to Allah, and Allah knows my repentance. Should I make up my past prayers and fasts, or does that repentance expiate everything? Please advise us, may Allah reward you?
The Shaykh : His repentance for the prayers and fasting he left behind expiates what came before, and he is not required to repeat what has passed. However, I advise him to increase in voluntary acts, seeking forgiveness, remembrance of Allah, and charity if he is able. And Allah the Exalted said:[Hud 11:114] I congratulate him on the repentance that Allah has bestowed upon him, and I ask Allah for us and for him steadfastness upon good and determination upon the right path, and that He guide us to what pleases Him and keep us away from the causes of His anger and His sins.
The questioner : May Allah bless you.
