The questioner : My elder sister was breastfed by my father’s mother for fifteen days. Is it permissible for me to uncover my face and shake hands with my cousins on the basis that they are brothers to my sister?

The Shaykh : It is obligatory for us to know an important rule in the chapter of breastfeeding, by which the ruling of this issue and others becomes clear. It is that breastfeeding does not extend to the relatives of the breastfed child, nor does it affect them in any way, except for his descendants. That is, breastfeeding only affects the breastfed child and his descendants. As for his relatives, meaning the relatives of the breastfed child such as his father, mother, and brothers, breastfeeding has no effect on them.
Based on this, this questioner who says that her elder sister was breastfed by her paternal grandmother for fifteen days has no relationship with her cousins, and they are not among her mahrams. However, her cousins are mahrams for her sister who was breastfed by their grandmother, because her sister who was breastfed by their grandmother is their aunt.
