Signs by Which the Night of Decree Is Known

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Does it have a sign? We say: Yes, it has a sign. There is a preceding sign and a subsequent sign. The preceding sign, which is known before the dawn breaks, is first: the illumination of that night, the Night of Decree, is more intense than that of the other nights, even if it might be the twenty-seventh or twenty-ninth night and the moon is weak, yet it has light. Second: the expansion of the believer's chest. The believer finds expansion, tranquility, love for work, and strength in his heart. This is one of the signs that occur for many people. Third: that this night is among the moderate nights in terms of heat and cold. That is to say, if we are in the time of winter, it is not the coldest of the nights, and if we are in the time of summer, it is not the hottest of the nights. Now, these are signs that accompany people from the beginning of the night. As for the subsequent sign, it is that the sun rises in its morning clear, without rays. But does a person benefit from this last sign? Yes, he benefits. He benefits by rejoicing if he was active in that night in prayer and supplication, and if his heart was present in supplication and other such matters. He rejoices and says: "Praise be to Allah that I was among the most active nights last night in recitation, or in glorification, or in supplication." He rejoices and hopes for good. What is the specific virtue that was encouraged?
