The Signs of the Night of Decree

The Shaykh : It has signs; the Night of Decree has signs: subsequent signs and present signs. As for the present signs, they are the brightness of its night, its light and its tranquility, the reduction of barking by dogs in it, the expansion of the Muslim’s chest, and the delight in obedience in his heart, and the like of what a person finds in that night. As for the subsequent signs, they are that the sun rises in its morning without rays, clear. The benefit of this subsequent sign is that a person is reassured that he was successful in that night in performing its right, and that he rejoices in Allah’s blessing upon him in it. Otherwise, some people say, “What is the benefit of a subsequent sign that one does not perceive at the time of the action?” We say that this sign is like a seal, or if you wish, like a stamp on a thing by which a person’s success for that night is made clear. I urge you, O brothers, to seize these ten nights by turning to Allah, being sincere to Him, and truly following the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), so that perhaps you may attain it.
