Signs of the Night of Decree.
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : If someone were to ask, "Are there signs for the Night of Decree?" we would say: it may have signs, or it may not. The important thing is to strive in all the nights of the ten, all the nights of the ten, for any of them could be the Night of Decree, but it has signs:
First: the expansion of the believer's chest and the tranquility of his heart. The believer may feel, in some of the nights of the ten, an expansion of his chest, a tranquility of his heart, a light in his heart, a love for prayer, and a love for supplication. This may be a sign of the Night of Decree, which Allah has granted him.
Second: vision. A person may see that the Night of Decree is on such-and-such a night, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw it, and as the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) saw it. This is also from Allah's honor for the servant.
Third: the scholars mentioned that its night is a white night, as if it were moonlit. Is this sign known in cities in our current time, or is it not known? Why? Because of the lights; all the nights are the same, praise be to Allah, by means of the lights. But one who is in the desert may be able to perceive this.
Fourth: the sun rises in its morning without rays. This was reported in Sahih Muslim:. But this sign does not benefit the person in his striving on that night, why? Because it has ended and passed. But it benefits him by increasing his joy; he rejoices if he had striven on that night and his chest had expanded, rejoicing that it was the Night of Decree. Then, it is not necessary for the believer to see these signs; the important thing is to strive in all of the last ten nights.
Among the characteristics of the last ten nights is that it is recommended to keep the entire night awake with recitation, dhikr, tasbih, and prayer.
As for nights other than the last ten... What are the characteristics of the ten nights? What was the last word we said? Where did you go? Tell me the truth. Yes, what was it? I didn't hear it because you were taken away. What took you away? Are you awake now? Rest.
Okay. What did we say? What was the last word we said?
The student: Keeping the night awake.
The Shaykh : Keeping the night awake, yes, and reciting the Qur'an and praying and so on. Well done.
As for other than the last ten nights, it is not recommended to keep them awake. So much so that when 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr ibn al-'As (may Allah be pleased with him) said:, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade him and said: Sahih al-Bukhari 3420. And when the group who wanted to draw near to Allah gathered, one of them said, "I will fast and not break my fast," and the second said, "I will stand in prayer and not sleep," and the third said, "I will not marry women." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: . May Allah send blessings and peace upon him and grant us the ability to follow him.
So, keeping the entire night awake is specific to the last ten nights of Ramadan. We should keep them awake with the remembrance of Allah, recitation of the Qur'an, prayer, and so on.
