Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: "Our Lord, do not place upon us a burden like that which You placed upon those before us."

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh :
Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have forgotten or erred. Our Lord, and lay not upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us.
[Al-Baqarah 2:286]
The burden means weight and shackles. So the believers of this Ummah ask Allah (Mighty and Majestic) not to place a burden upon them as He placed it upon those before them. Then Allah said: I have done so, by His saying in describing the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him):
and relieves them of their burden and the shackles which were upon them وَيَضَعُ عَنْهُمْ إِصْرَهُمْ وَالْأَغْلالَ الَّتِي كَانَتْ عَلَيْهِمْ
[Al-A'raf 7:157]
So Allah the Exalted removed the burden and the shackles that were upon those who came before us through this noble Messenger (may Allah's prayers and peace be upon him). And we give you an example: When the Children of Israel worshipped the calf, what were they obligated to do for their repentance to be valid? You answer? Who will answer? Please.
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : Well done. They were told: There is no repentance for you except that you kill yourselves. And this is a burden and a shackle, is it not? A great burden. Our repentance, and praise be to Allah, is between us and Allah. If a person repents to his Lord and the five conditions of repentance are fulfilled, which we have outlined for you previously, then it is accepted.
And the five, one of you says them briefly after the adhan.
