Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: “Our Lord, do not place upon us a burden as You placed it upon those before us.”

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh :
Our Lord, and lay not upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us.
[Al-Baqarah 2:286]
Then Allah said:
He has done so قد فعلت
.
The word *isr* means: severity. That is, do not place upon us a severity as You placed upon those before us. Those before us were subjected to severity and restriction. Allah the Exalted said:
And to those who are Jews We prohibited every animal of uncloven hoof; and of the cattle and the sheep We prohibited to them their fat, except what adheres to their backs or the entrails or what is joined with bone
[Al-An'am 6:146]
And Allah the Exalted commanded those who worshipped the calf to kill one another to verify their repentance. And this, praise be to Allah, does not exist in this Shari'ah. Rather, in this Shari'ah, whoever repents, Allah accepts his repentance without any hardship or severity.
