Is it permissible to leave off the greeting if one knows it will not be returned?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : May Allah reward you. A questioner says: If I enter the house and greet my family, and none of them responds to me, should I leave off the greeting?

The Shaykh : Do not leave off the greeting if you greet a person and he does not respond to you. Remind him and say: "My brother, why did you not respond?" and guide him to the obligation of responding.
But if you know that this man does not return the greeting, do you greet him or do you say: "I will not greet him so that I do not expose him to sin"?
Some people have been confused and said: If you know that the one being greeted does not return the greeting, do not greet him, because if you greet him and he does not respond, what then? He would be sinful, and you would be the cause for him.
So we say: This is a mistake. This is a wrong theory, because if he falls short in what is obligatory upon him, it is not befitting for me to fall short in what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) commanded when he said:
Spread the greeting of peace among yourselves. أفشوا السلام بينكم
So you greet, and if he does not respond, advise him and say: "My brother, it is obligatory upon you, when your Muslim brother greets you, to return his greeting."
