You said that it is permissible to abort the fetus if the soul has not been breathed into it, provided it is deformed and the doctors have ruled so. How can we accept this from them when Allah says He knows what is in the wombs?

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good. A questioner says: O esteemed Shaykh, you said that if the doctors rule that the fetus is deformed before the soul is breathed into it, then it is permissible to abort it. How can this be accepted from them when no one knows what is in the wombs except Allah the Exalted?

The Shaykh : No, my brother, the doctors know the fetus and know whether it is deformed or not. The statement of Allah the Exalted:
and knows what is in the wombs ويعلم ما في الأرحام
[Luqman 31:34]
and the statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
and no one knows what is in the wombs except Allah ولا يعلم ما في الأرحام إلا الله
is not limited to the physical formation, but rather to the future of the fetus. Who knows that? Allah. Who knows whether it will remain for a long time or die soon, what its provision is, what its lifespan is, what its deeds will be, and so on... Knowledge of the fetus is not limited to the physical formation. It is well known that the angel who breathes the soul into it knows whether it is male or female. Therefore, knowledge of what is in the wombs has many aspects, some of which may be known before the fetus is born, and some of which only Allah knows, even after the fetus is born. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.
