The story of the disbelieving man who embraced Islam at Uhud and was martyred there, having never prostrated to Allah.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Another example: A man from Banu 'Abd al-Ashhal from the people of Madinah, known for his hostility toward the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and his hatred of Islam. When he heard the commotion of the departure for the Battle of Uhud, let us look at when the Battle of Uhud took place?
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : The tenth, the tenth year of the Hijrah? No, the sixteenth year of the Hijrah? No, we belong to Allah and to Him we return. We must know the Messenger and the battles of the Messenger, for by Allah, the biography of the Messenger plants faith in the heart, a firm planting. Now, what do you say? When was the Battle of Uhud?
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : Oh men? Rest, please.
The student: The third year.

The Shaykh : In the third year of the Hijrah, in which month?
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : In Ramadan? No, a little later, in Shawwal. May Allah reward you. The Battle of Uhud was in Shawwal in the third year of the Hijrah.
Al-Asir, as I told you, was from Banu 'Abd al-Ashhal. He heard the commotion and went out. He used to oppose Islam and hate Islam. Allah placed faith in his heart because the Exalted knew that there was good in him. So the man went out to strive in the cause of Allah, to fight so that the word of Allah would be the supreme word, whereas before he used to fight so that the word of disbelief would be the supreme word. The man was killed. When the battle ended, the people began searching among the dead, each looking for his own killed. They found this man and said, "What brought you here, so-and-so? Did you not hate this matter? What is this matter? Islam. Did you not hate this matter? Did you come to ambush your people, or out of desire for Islam?" He said:
Rather, out of desire for Islam. Then he asked them to convey the salam to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and they did so. بل رغبة في الإسلام ثم طلب منهم أن يقرؤوا السلام على النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم ففعلوا
Look at this man; how did he conclude his life? With a good ending, after there was nothing between him and the Fire but an arm's length. Therefore, I ask Allah, the Exalted and Sublime, by His beautiful names and His exalted attributes, to make my ending and your endings good. O Allah, let us die upon faith and the oneness of Allah, O Lord of the worlds, and do not let our hearts deviate after You have guided us.
