What is the obligation of the followers toward the imam if he forgets in his prayer and omits the final prostration in the final unit, then is reminded and prostrates the obligatory prostration but does not prostrate for forgetfulness?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : O Shaykh, may Allah reward you. In a congregation, they prayed one of the obligatory prayers, and the imam forgot in the final unit regarding the final prostration; he did not prostrate, said the closing salam, and the followers left. Some of the followers performed the prostration and separated from the imam, some stood up and left the mosque, and some repeated the prayer entirely. The imam was then reminded, so he left, performed the prostration, and said the salam, but he did not prostrate for forgetfulness. It is known that prostration is a pillar, and the prayer is invalid if it is omitted, whether intentionally or by mistake?

The Shaykh : But he prostrated the prostration or only the prostration for forgetfulness?

The questioner : The prostration only.

The Shaykh : And he did not prostrate for forgetfulness?

The questioner : Yes, what is the ruling?

The Shaykh : It is obligatory for the follower, if his imam neglects a pillar or an obligation, to remind him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
If something happens to you in your prayer, let the men glorify Allah and let the women clap إذا نابكم شيء في صلاتكم فليسبح الرجال وليصفق النساء
Sunan ad-Darimi 2:175
So it is obligatory for the followers to glorify Allah and to persist in glorifying Allah until the imam returns. If it happens that the imam does not understand, let them recite a verse that indicates this. For example, this man who omitted the final prostration and said the salam, it is obligatory for the followers to glorify Allah and say: Subhan Allah, until he becomes aware. If he does not become aware, let them recite a verse from the Qur'an that reminds him, such as saying:
And prostrate and draw near وَاسْجُدْ وَاقْتَرِبْ
or a similar verse that reminds him.
As for the case that occurred, those who prostrated the second prostration and said the salam, their prayer is valid. Those who did not prostrate until a long time had passed, it is obligatory for them to repeat the prayer from the beginning. Those who were reminded shortly after and then prostrated, it is obligatory for them, after the salam, to prostrate two prostrations for forgetfulness and then say the salam. So you ask these brothers about what happened to them, and whoever among them says: "I have not prostrated until now," tell him to repeat his prayer from the beginning.
