What is the ruling on repeating the same surah in the first and second rak'ahs by mistake, not intentionally?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : What is the ruling on repeating the same surah in the first and second rak'ahs by mistake, not intentionally?

The Shaykh : There is nothing wrong with repeating a surah once or twice, whether in one rak'ah or two, and whether it is by mistake or intentionally, due to the generality of the statement of Allah the Exalted:
So recite what is easy from it فَاقْرَءُوا مَا تَيَسَّرَ مِنْهُ
[Al-Muzzammil 73:20]
and because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray at night and would repeat the words of Allah the Exalted:
If You should punish them - indeed they are Your servants; but if You forgive them - indeed it is You who is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.
[Al-Ma'idah 5:118]
continuing to repeat them until morning.
