The questioner : A young man aged twenty-seven grew up in a family committed to their religion and grew up with a sound mind and body, and he praises Allah for that. But he says: One must believe in divine decree and destiny, because I was afflicted with a mental illness, and there are no causes for this illness except in one situation, which is that I used to exhaust myself during the exam days while I was in the secondary stage, where I would stay up all night and sleep only a small portion of the night. After the exams ended, I was surprised to find that I had failed in mathematics. Finally, I put pressure on myself during the summer vacation in studying and completed the exam in the second round, and praise be to Allah, and I succeeded. After that, for a very short period, I was afflicted with a mental illness such as insomnia. I try at night to resist this illness, but I do not succeed, and it is without benefit. He says: I feel distress and hallucinations. After that, I consulted many psychiatric clinics, and many doctors diagnosed this illness as obsessive-compulsive disorder, and some of them told me that this illness is the result of a hereditary disease. And I am still not convinced by the doctors' words because they have not reached a result. My question: What do you advise me, may Allah reward you, O honorable Shaykh? Second, sometimes I experience a lack of concentration while I am in prayer. Third, at times words come out of me against my will, such as cursing or doubt. Is anything recorded against me for that? I ask for advice and guidance, may you be rewarded?
The Shaykh : This condition that this questioner described may befall many young people due to mental or physical exhaustion. The remedy for that is for a person to give himself the rest by which he recovers, and to increase in the remembrance of Allah and reading the Qur'an, and to seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan constantly, and to adhere to seeking forgiveness, because seeking forgiveness is among the causes of attaining good and repelling evil, and to be keen on keeping the company of the righteous among his kind,Sahih Muslim 2628.
And let him turn away from remembering this condition, because remembering a thing moves the one who remembers it from imagination to reality. So if he turns away from it and forgets it, then by the permission of Allah it will disappear from him.
As for the issue of prayer, it is recommended for him, if he feels what distracts him from his prayer from these intrusive thoughts, to spit to his left three times while seeking refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan, and after that it will disappear by the permission of Allah.
As for doubt, no sin is recorded against a person as long as he is not convinced by it, does not incline toward it, and does not affirm it in his heart. Rather, this doubt is from Shaytan, who casts it into the heart of the certain person so that perhaps his certainty will disappear and he will move from certainty to doubt. For this reason, it is recommended, indeed it is obligatory, if you feel it, that you seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan, and that you stop it and turn away from it.
As for cursing and insulting, a person is held accountable for it, because what is recommended for a person when he is angry is to seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan and not to be enslaved by his anger. For anger is an ember that Shaytan casts into the heart of a person until his neck veins swell and his face turns red, and he says what should not be said. So if he feels that, let him seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan. If he is standing, let him sit, and if he is sitting, let him lie down, and let him also perform ablution, for all of that is among what removes anger from him. As for a person being enslaved by anger and being deceived by it, this is contrary to prudence. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked by a man, and he said: "Advise me." He said: He repeated it several times, and he said: .
The questioner : May Allah bless you.

Abu Musa reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: The similitude of good company and that of bad company is that of the owner of musk and of the one (iron-smith) blowing bellows, and the owner of musk would either offer you free of charge or you would buy it from him or you would. smell its pleasant odour, and so far as one who blows the. bellows is concerned, he would either burn your clothes or you shall have to smell its repugnant smell.
