The Meaning of the Saying of Allah the Exalted: "Then you will be asked on that Day about the blessings."
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Allah, Mighty and Majestic, says: [At-Takathur 102:8] This means that on the Day of Resurrection, a person will be asked about the blessings, meaning about everything by which he was blessed in this world. We ask Allah to grant us and you a correct answer. He will be asked: Where did this come from? And what did you spend it on? Therefore, Allah, Mighty and Majestic, prohibited extravagance in food and drink, and He said: [Al-A'raf 7:31]. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: As-Sunan al-Kubra lil-Nasa'i 48:32, meaning it sustains his life Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2380Sahih (Darussalam). For this reason, one of the principles of medicine is that a person should eat what sustains his body and not eat too much. Then, if he comes to eat after that, it means it is not necessary that we eat three times; we eat a little, and then when we get hungry, we eat, and so on.
[At-Takathur 102:8] And this is where we end what Allah, Mighty and Majestic, intended for us to speak about regarding this surah. It has more meanings than what we have mentioned, and we do not encompass all of its knowledge, for Allah, Mighty and Majestic, is the one who knows.
Now, to the questions.
The questioner : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
The Shaykh : Look at the microphone.
The questioner : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may blessings and peace be upon the one whom Allah sent as a mercy to the worlds.
The Shaykh : May Allah send prayers and peace upon him.
The questioner : And upon his Companions and his pure and noble family. Your Eminence, on behalf of the people of Taybah and the students of knowledge there, we greet you and welcome you, asking Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, to prolong your life in His obedience.
The Shaykh : And you likewise.
The questioner : And that He may record your steps, and that He may not make this meeting the last time we see you, and that He may grant us and you a comfortable life, and that He may conclude for us all with a happy ending.
The Shaykh : Amen.
Then you will surely be asked that Day about pleasure.
ثم لتسألن يومئذ عن النعيمand eat and drink, but be not excessive. Indeed, He likes not those who commit excess.
كلوا واشربوا ولا تسرفوا إنه لا يحب المسرفينEnough for you, O son of Adam, are mouthfuls that will straighten your back.
حسبك ابن آدم لقيمات يقمن صلبهIf this is not possible, then a third for food, a third for drink, and third for his breath.
