The questioner : In the name of Allah, and praise be to Allah. A questioner says: May Allah reward you, O honorable Shaykh. What is your advice to a woman who refuses to let her husband marry another woman and asks him for divorce before he does so, knowing that there are women listening to the lesson, O Shaykh?
The Shaykh : Yes. It is not permissible for a woman to ask for divorce from her husband if he wants to marry another woman. As for the husband, he may marry a second, third, or fourth woman in addition to the first, making the total four, based on the saying of Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He:[An-Nisa 4:3] But He imposed conditions:
The first condition is that he must be able to afford it with his wealth. If he is not able to afford it with his wealth and wants to go borrow or take out a loan or the like, he should not do so, because he would be bringing upon himself things he has no need for.
The second condition is that he must be able to do so with his body, meaning he must be capable of being just between the wives and having the ability for each woman to enjoy from him what she desires.
The third condition is that he must be just between them in reality. If he does not act justly, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sunan Abi Dawud 2133Sahih (Al-Albani) We ask Allah for safety.
If the conditions are met, the wife has no right to ask for divorce from her husband if he marries. Rather, she must be patient, seek reward from Allah, and train herself to be patient and not to panic. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) married more than one woman, and those other than the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) among the leaders, scholars, and common people of the Muslims did the same. Yes.
The questioner : May Allah reward you with good. And this is a woman asking, O Shaykh. She says: Is it permissible to dye hair with the various colored dyes currently available in the markets, other than black, of course?
The Shaykh : Look, may Allah bless you. You know that Allah has given men preference over women. There is a question for the women and two questions for the men.[An-Nisa 4:11]. This comes before it; a question from two men comes.
The questioner : Very well.
