Some people prefer their desires to the obedience of Allah; do they fall under the saying of Allah the Exalted?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : The questioner says: Some people prefer their desires to the obedience of Allah. Do they fall under the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And [yet], among the people are those who take other than Allah as equals [to Him]. They love them as they [should] love Allah. ومن الناس من يتخذ من دون الله أندادا يحبونهم كحب الله
[Al-Baqarah 2:165]
?

The Shaykh : Yes. The one who prefers his desire to the obedience of his Lord does not fall under what the questioner mentioned. But he falls under what Allah the Exalted said:
Have you seen the one who took his desire as his god? أفرأيت من اتخذ إلهه هواه
. So the one who follows his desire, placing it before the guidance of Allah the Mighty and Majestic, has taken it as a god. Do not be surprised by this. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Woe to the slave of the dinar, woe to the slave of the dirham, woe to the slave of the khamsishah, woe to the slave of the khumaylah تعس عبد الدينار تعس عبد الدرهم تعس عبد الخميصة تعس عبد الخميلة
. What is the meaning of "the slave of the dinar"? It is the one who placed the acquisition of the dinar before the obedience of Allah. Because it is not the intention of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) that a person places a dirham and prostrates to it. No, his intention is that he followed the dirham and placed it before the commands of Allah. For this reason, he said:
as he is pleased if these things are given to him, and if not, he is displeased إن أعطي رضي وإن لم يعط سخط
Sahih al-Bukhari 2887
.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.
