The Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) second 'Umrah, which is 'Umrah al-Qadiyyah, and the reason for its name

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : As for the second 'Umrah, it is the one called 'Umrah al-Qadiyyah. This was also before the conquest of Makkah. It was in the year of... who knows? The seventh year, because 'Umrah al-Hudaybiyyah was in the sixth year in Dhul-Qa'dah. And this one was in the seventh year in Dhul-Qa'dah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed 'Umrah and entered Makkah, but the Quraysh did not allow him to stay except for three days. And I ask you, my brothers, who is most deserving of the House and who are the guardians of the House? Answer, everyone. The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and his Companions. Allah the Exalted said regarding the Quraysh:
and they were not [fit to be] its guardians? Its [true] guardians are not but the righteous وما كانوا أولياءه إن أولياؤه إلا المتقون
[Al-Anfal 8:34]
. Only three days remained in 'Umrah al-Qadiyyah. When the three days were completed, they said, "Come on, walk, O Muhammad. Go back." This was while he was the most deserving of people of the House, may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him. But despite that, he was the most faithful of people to the conditions. No one was more faithful to the conditions than he was. There was a condition between him and the Quraysh, and he upheld it. What is this 'Umrah called? 'Umrah al-Qadiyyah or 'Umrah al-Qada'. Some people understood that its name 'Umrah al-Qada' is because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) made up his first 'Umrah, which he was prevented from completing. And they built upon this that whoever is prevented from the Sacred Precinct must make it up, that he must make up what he was prevented from. But this is wrong, and even if some scholars said it, it is wrong. It was called 'Umrah al-Qada' or al-Qadiyyah from the perspective of negotiation, meaning a treaty. As it came in the peace treaty: "This is what Muhammad negotiated." So it is from negotiation, not from making up a missed act. For this reason, not all those who were prevented from 'Umrah al-Hudaybiyyah came for this 'Umrah. This indicates that it is not 'Umrah al-Qada' in the sense that many jurists understand, but rather 'Umrah al-Mashwa al-Qadiyyah from negotiation, not from making up. These are two 'Umrahs that were before the conquest: the first in the sixth year and the second in the seventh.
