The ruling on inventing acts of worship at the graves of the righteous.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : This is regardless of inventing acts of worship at this grave, such as giving charity at the grave, or praying at the grave, or making supplication at the grave. This also requires another proof, a third proof. Bring the proof that giving charity at the graves of the righteous is better than giving charity elsewhere. Bring the proof that making supplication at the graves of the righteous is better. All of this, my brothers, requires a proof. Why? Because the original ruling regarding acts of worship is prohibition and forbiddance until a proof comes for it. So let us first judge by the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger. Then secondly, by our minds, and let us clarify every statement that a speaker makes to us that we follow? If we do that, then the saying of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, will be true of us:
like that of one who shouts at what hears nothing but calls and cries cattle or sheep - deaf, dumb and blind, so they do not understand. كمثل الذي ينعق بما لا يسمع إلا دعاء ونداء صم بكم عمي فهم لا يعقلون
[Al-Baqarah 2:171]
. Be careful, may Allah reward you, for these matters. So, does preferring some times over others require?
The student: A proof.

The Shaykh : Preferring some places over others?
The student: It requires a proof.

The Shaykh : It requires a proof. Preferring some deeds over others requires a proof. Inventing deeds by which a person draws near to Allah requires a proof. All of these are very important matters that we must know completely. How much time is left until the adhan? Hmm.
The student: About five minutes.

The Shaykh : Five minutes. We will make the five minutes for questions.
The student: It doesn't do anything.

The Shaykh : It doesn't do anything? Okay, if it doesn't do anything, we will leave it for the morning, if Allah wills, after Fajr. Okay, we will take what is possible now, because after the prayer there is no lesson.
The student: ... and the rest will sit.

The questioner : In the name of Allah, and praise be to Allah.

The Shaykh : There is [time] between the adhan and the iqamah.

The questioner : And blessings and peace upon the best of Allah's creation, our master and our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and his Companions, and whoever follows his path and is guided by his guidance until the Day of Judgment.
