Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: "and the poor."

The Shaykh : The word "al-masakin" is the plural of "masakin," and they are the poor, for they are the recipients of compassion and sympathy. For this reason, Allah has assigned them a share of the zakah.
And the traveler: the traveler is the one whose journey has been cut off. You see a man traveling who is not from the people of the town, and you know that he is in need of a fare to get him to the town, so give it to him. If he is in need of food, drink, or clothing, give it to him, for he is in a state that calls for compassion.
