Fatawa of the Makkah Haram-1413-04b

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : O honorable Shaykh, what is the ruling on seeking the help of a man afflicted with possession by jinn to help them diagnose illnesses and identify the location of sorcery and other matters, because this man afflicted with possession learns about these matters through the jinn possessing him? Please inform us, may Allah reward you.

The Shaykh : As for me, may Allah bless you, I live in the world of humans! Ask those who live in the world of jinn! And know that the Islamic Shari'ah does not bring what conflicts with benefits. So whatever contains benefit and does not contain religious or worldly harm, the Islamic Shari'ah does not object to it, because it all establishes benefits and removes harms. We mentioned in the morning lesson that things do not escape five matters regarding this topic. Is there anyone among you who can mention them?
The student: Pure benefit or pure harm...

The Shaykh : Yes.
The student: Or predominant benefit.

The Shaykh : Yes.
The student: Or predominant harm.

The Shaykh : Yes.
The student: Or the benefit and the harm are equal.

The Shaykh : Perfect. Pure benefit, pure harm, predominant benefit, predominant harm, and benefit and harm where neither is predominant over the other. What does pure benefit mean? It means a benefit that contains no harm. Pure harm is one that contains no benefit. The Shari'ah establishes pure benefit and predominant benefit, and it completely negates predominant harm and pure harm. If the benefit and the harm are equal, then averting harms is more important than seeking benefits.

The questioner : May Allah reward you.
