A word from the Shaykh on the innovation of designating the twenty-seventh night for 'Umrah.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : And if the matter is thus, it is the same as designating the twenty-seventh night of Ramadan for 'Umrah, as many of the common people do, designating the twenty-seventh night for 'Umrah. This has no basis in the Sunnah; rather, designating it for 'Umrah is a religious innovation (bid'ah), as we have previously explained in the discussion on following the Prophet. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Whoever spends the night of Lailat Al-Qadr in prayer out of faith and in the hope of reward, he will be forgiven his previous sins. من قام ليلة القدر إيماناً واحتساباً غفر له ما تقدّم من ذنبه
Sunan an-Nasa'i 2193Sahih (Darussalam)
He did not say "whoever performs 'Umrah in it," but he said "whoever performs 'Umrah in Ramadan"
Indeed, 'Umrah in Ramadan is equivalent to Hajj. فإن عمرة في رمضان تعدل حجّة
Sunan ad-Darimi 5:70

On this occasion, I would like to advise my Muslim brothers in general not to make their worship of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) a worship of desire and emotion, approving what has no evidence for its approval and disapproving what has no evidence for its disapproval, and innovating and legislating without evidence from the Shari'ah. The matter is serious. Whoever does a deed for which there is no command from Allah and His Messenger, it is rejected from him; it is not accepted from him, and it does not increase him from Allah except distance, if he intentionally contradicted the truth. If he was ignorant and intended excellence, Allah may forgive him and reward him according to his intention. But when the truth becomes clear to him, he must return to the truth. If this is the case regarding what he does, he should not do anything as an act of worship to Allah except with evidence from the Shari'ah of Allah, so that a person does not legislate in the religion of Allah what is not part of it.
