The wisdom behind giving zakat al-fitr and what the one who gives zakat al-fitr should do

The Shaykh : It is recommended for a person, when he gives zakat al-fitr, to intend by it to draw near to Allah, to intend by it the purification of his fasting from idle talk and obscene speech, and to intend by it to benefit his Muslim brothers. This is because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) made it obligatory as a purification for the fasting person from idle talk and obscene speech, and as food for the poor. We ask Allah the Exalted to purify our hearts and your hearts, our fasting and your fasting, and to accept from us, from you, and from all Muslims.
