The questioner : May Allah preserve you, the honorable Shaykh, says:The questioner : What is the ruling on a wife who informs her family of her husband's differences and problems but does not mention his good qualities to them?
The Shaykh : This wife, who mentions the faults of her husband without mentioning his good qualities to her family, has committed a great error. This is because if her family does not see anything of her husband except these faults, they may take actions that lead to his separation from her. The wise, believing woman is the one who conceals her husband's faults and highlights his good qualities to her family and to others. Likewise, we say this about anyone other than a woman: it is not permissible for a person to reveal the faults of people without mentioning their good qualities. In fact, it is not permissible to mention faults at all unless there is a need for it, and mentioning them is part of completing the advice. Otherwise, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sunan Abi Dawud 4874Sahih (Al-Albani) Mentioning the faults of a person to others is undoubtedly backbiting. If there is no Sharia benefit in doing so, it is not permissible to mention faults. How much more so if one mentions the faults and remains silent about the good qualities? My advice to this wife is to fear Allah the Mighty and Majestic and not to mention her husband's faults to her family, because that may lead to attempts to separate her from her husband. Yes, if it is assumed that her husband is neglecting his obligations and she wants to complain to her family about her husband so that they can intervene to fix the situation, that is a different matter, because we may say that she is excused in that case. Yes.
