The Meaning of the Saying of Allah the Exalted: "Indeed, He is the Forgiving, the Merciful. And turn to your Lord and submit to Him before the punishment comes to you, then you will not be helped."

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : all sins
Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful." إنه هو الغفور الرحيم
[Yusuf 12:98]
and al-Ghafur al-Rahim are two of the names of Allah, one of which implies forgiveness and the other implies mercy, so forgiveness is for the sinners and mercy is for the obedient, the sinners are forgiven and the obedient are shown mercy with a multiplied reward
Whoever comes [on the Day of Judgement] with a good deed will have ten times the like thereof [to his credit], and whoever comes with an evil deed will not be recompensed except the like thereof; and they will not be wronged. من جاء بالحسنة فله عشر أمثالها ومن جاء بالسيئة فلا يجزى إلا مثلها وهم لا يظلمون
[Al-An'am 6:160]

And turn to your Lord وأنيبوا إلى ربكم
return to Him, seek refuge in Him, make Him your recourse in everything,
And submit to Himوأسلموا له
that is, to Allah (Mighty and Majestic), that is, submit to Him with the most complete submission,
before the punishment comes upon you; then you will not be helped. من قبل أن يأتي العذاب ثم لا تنصرون
[Az-Zumar 39:54]
meaning you must repent to Allah, turn back to Him, seek refuge in Him, and hold fast to Him before the punishment comes upon you suddenly while you are unaware, and Allah (Mighty and Majestic) has threatened the disobedient that the punishment will come upon them either while they are sleeping or in the forenoon while they are playing, Allah the Exalted said:
(97) Then, did the people of the cities feel secure from Our punishment coming to them at night while they were asleep? (98) Or did the people of the cities feel secure from Our punishment coming to them in the morning while they were at play? (99) Then did they feel secure from the plan of Allah? But no one feels secure from the plan of Allah except the losing people. أفأمن أهل القرى أن يأتيهم بأسنا بياتاً وهم نائمون، أو أمن أهل القرى أن يأتيهم بأسنا ضحى وهم يلعبون، أفأمنوا مكر الله فلا يأمن مكر الله إلا القوم الخاسرون
[Al-A'raf 7:97-99]

The Shaykh : Very well, may Allah bless you.

The Shaykh : Allah (Mighty and Majestic) says:
before the punishment comes upon you; then you will not be helped. من قبل أن يأتيكم العذاب ثم لا تنصرون
[Az-Zumar 39:54]
meaning no one can prevent you from the punishment of Allah, because if people do not repent to Allah and continue in His disobedience, then Allah the Exalted will send down upon them His wrath which is not turned away from the criminal people, we ask Allah the Exalted to guide us and you to repentance.
and we stop here at His saying, meaning we pause at His saying:
And follow the best of what was revealed to you from your Lord واتبعوا أحسن من أنزل إليكم من ربكم
[Az-Zumar 39:55]
and it will be, if Allah wills, in the next lesson, so remind us of this.
Then we are announcing two pieces of news now:
The first piece of news is that we have reversed our previous decision from last night to allow a half-hour break between the end of the lesson and the beginning of the Tahajjud prayer, because we did not benefit from it; rather, we deprived some of the brothers of the hidden questions that are brought to us.
The second piece of news is that there is no lesson tomorrow morning because it is Friday, and it is our custom that there is no lesson on Friday mornings, and Allah knows best.
We also want to urge you to submit your competition questions so that the time does not end and we have not reached anything. Some of the brothers have submitted to me what will be a competition in Tawhid and Aqeedah, but even so, someone must give us questions in Hadith, Fiqh, Tafsir, Arabic, and the other sciences. Yes, if Allah wills, we have designated three nights.
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : No, three nights; this night and the night before have passed, and one night remains. Very well.
Meaning, if we do not get these questions, the competition will be canceled.
Yes.
