The Auditory Evidence from the Book Establishing the Exaltation of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, from Multiple Perspectives

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The auditory evidence indicates the exaltation of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, from many angles:
First: Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, explicitly describes Himself with the attribute of exaltation. In which verse? In His saying, the Exalted:
Exalt the name of your Lord, the Most High,
[Al-A'la 87:1]
. "Al-A'la" is a superlative form. From what? From exaltation.
Here, He did not say "Al-A'la" over something specific; it is not qualified. Therefore, He possesses absolute exaltation, Mighty and Majestic, above everything. Nothing is equal to Him, and nothing is above Him. He is the Most High above everything. Among these is Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, explicitly stating exaltation using the form of the active participle indicating permanence and stability, such as
And He is the Most High, the Most Great.
[Al-Baqarah 2:255]
. "Aliyy" is a form derived from exaltation. The "fa'il" form comes for intensification and as an active participle indicating permanence and continuity, and it is so in His saying, the Exalted:
And He is the Most High, the Most Great.
[Al-Baqarah 2:255]
.
The Qur'an also explicitly mentions being above, such as His saying, the Exalted: What is it?
And He is the subjugator over His servants
[Al-An'am 6:18]
They fear their Lord above them
[An-Nahl 16:50]
.
It also comes in the Qur'an with explicit mention of things descending from Him, and descent necessitates exaltation, in His saying, Blessed and Exalted is He - what is it? - :
Indeed, We sent the Qur'an down during the Night of Decree.
[Al-Qadr 97:1]
.
a Book which We have sent down, blessed
[Al-An'am 6:92]
He arranges [each] matter from the heaven to the earth
[As-Sajdah 32:5]
.
It also comes with explicit mention of things ascending to Him and rising to Him, and ascending and rising only occur from lower to higher,
The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him
[Al-Ma'arij 70:4]
To Him ascends good speech, and righteous work raises it
[Fatir 35:10]
.
It also comes with the description of elevation, such as His saying, the Exalted:
indeed I will take you and raise you to Myself
[Ali 'Imran 3:55]
and in His saying, the Exalted:
The Possessor of the high degrees
.
Here we pause to clarify that some exegetes say:
The Possessor of the high degrees
: meaning the Raiser of the degrees. This is a distortion of the text's meaning, because Allah said:
[He is] the Exalted above [all] degrees, Owner of the Throne
[Ghafir 40:15]
. Therefore, the meaning of "Rafi' al-Darajat" is that Allah Himself is the One of the high degrees, the Possessor of the Throne, which is the ceiling of all creation. The verses in this regard are numerous, all indicating what? The exaltation of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, more than can be counted.
