Does Allah have a left hand?
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : The honorable Shaykh saysThe questioner : Does Allah have a left hand?
The Shaykh : This—may Allah protect me—what kind of question is this?
If we assume that Allah has a left hand, or that He does not have a left hand, what is the benefit? Did the Companions say, “O Messenger of Allah, does Allah have a left hand?” Since it is not the case, the Companions, who were more eager than us for knowledge, more reverent toward Allah, and more keen to know what is obligatory for Allah and what is not, and what is impossible, found that silence is the only option regarding this matter. However, it is obligatory for us to know that both of His hands are right, meaning that one of them is not deficient compared to the other, unlike humans. In humans, the left hand is deficient compared to the right hand, is it not? This is the case for most people, though there are those who are left-handed, in which case the left hand is the stronger one. But generally, the right hand is the stronger one and has the advantage over the left hand. As for the hands of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), and I mean both hands, both of them are right, as that came from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Therefore, there is no deficiency in one of them compared to the other.
