Is it permissible to leave one's original country for the sake of seeking knowledge if the father does not approve?
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Jami` at-Tirmidhi 311Sahih (Darussalam)
The questioner : May Allah reward you. A questioner says: I am a teacher, and I have a father, and I live in a village. I want to move from there to Makkah or al-Madinah to benefit and seek knowledge, but he refuses on the grounds that he needs me, even though he does not need me except rarely. I am married and have children, and I want to take them with me and leave this village so that they grow up with a righteous upbringing. Please advise me: should I move or stay?
The Shaykh : It is preferable for a person to look at what is best for himself and for others. For this reason, the Companions moved from al-Madinah and Makkah to Iraq, Sham, and Egypt, because that was more beneficial for the Muslims and broader in spreading the Sunnah. So if your staying in the village is more beneficial because you benefit its people and gather them upon the truth, then your staying in the village is better than moving to Makkah or al-Madinah or any other country.
As for if you are not benefiting anyone in the village and you want to move to another country where you will benefit, then there is no blame on you for moving, even if your father does not give you permission, provided that he is not in dire necessity of you.
But if he is in dire necessity of you, then it is obligatory to remove his necessity by staying with him. Yes.
except for Umm Al-Kitab, for there is no Salat for one who does not recite it
