The fourth question of Fatwa No. ( 20169 )
Q4: I am the eldest of my orphaned brothers, and I have a mother who wants to perform Hajj. I do not have the financial means to cover the costs of Hajj and bring her to perform it. Is there a sin on me if I disobey her? Please inform us, may Allah reward you with good.
A4 : If your mother asks you to take her for Hajj from her country and you are unable to bear the costs of Hajj for her due to your lack of financial means, there is no blame or sin on you for not fulfilling her request; because of the saying of Allah the Exalted:[Al-Baqarah 2:286] and His saying: [Al-Hajj 22:78] , and His saying, Glorified is He: [At-Taghabun 64:16] , and because Hajj is not obligatory upon her in this case as long as she is unable to perform Hajj herself. You should make your mother’s heart content, be dutiful to her, and promise her that you will take her for Hajj in the future when it becomes easy for you.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
