Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Now, the statement that a person must have certainty in his heart regarding the essence of Allah and remove corrupt certainty?

The Shaykh : How? Raise your voice.

The questioner : I mean, placing certainty in the heart regarding the essence of Allah and removing corrupt certainty: Is this part of the belief of the Existentialists?

The Shaykh : Placing certainty.

The questioner : I mean, having certainty in his heart regarding the essence of Allah and removing certainty regarding the essence of things.

The Shaykh : I say: The one who claims that you are certain of the essence of Allah and not certain of anything else is insane.

The questioner : No, I did not understand, O Shaykh. The question is: How is it that we hear a common phrase that a person has certainty in his heart regarding the essence of Allah, being certain that Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) is the One who honors and humbles.

The Shaykh : It is present.

The questioner : No, no, the One who honors and humbles, the One who gives and withholds.
And his certainty is not regarding the essence of things, meaning the officials or wealth or...

The Shaykh : Say "tawakkul" (reliance upon Allah). May Allah reward you with good. This is called certainty; it is called tawakkul. So there is no doubt that a person must place his tawakkul in Allah
And upon Allah rely, if you should be believers." وَعَلَى اللَّهِ فَتَوَكَّلُوا إِنْ كُنْتُمْ مُؤْمِنِينَ
[Al-Ma'idah 5:23]
. And he must consider everything other than Allah as merely a cause.
So there is no doubt that a person relies on his salary, and for this reason he borrows against his salary and buys things on credit against his salary. Yes.
Yes, but that does not mean he relies on it as he relies on Allah; rather, he believes that it is one of the causes.

The questioner : But certainty.

The Shaykh : Calling tawakkul "certainty" is an error, and I fear that this is from the words of the Sufis or those similar to them. Tawakkul is not certainty. Tawakkul is when a person relies on Allah, whereas certainty is when one is certain of the existence of a thing.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.
