What is the authenticity of the hadith of the man who came to Ibn Abbas while he was in i'tikaf (spiritual retreat in the mosque) and said, "Why do I see you looking dejected?" He said, "I have worries or a debt. No, by the sanctity of this grave, I am unable to pay it."

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good, O honorable Shaykh. A hadith passed by me in al-Tabarani and al-Hakim, and al-Safarini mentioned it in *Sharh Thalathiyat Musnad Ahmad* (Explanation of the Three-Chain Narrations of Ahmad's Musnad), and he did not comment on the issue of
That a man came to Ibn Abbas while he was in i'tikaf (spiritual retreat in the mosque) أن رجلا جاء إلى ابن عباس وهو في الاعتكاف
.

The Shaykh : What?

The questioner :
That a man came to Ibn Abbas while he was in i'tikaf (spiritual retreat in the mosque) and said, "Why do I see you looking dejected?" He said, "I have a worry or a debt or something like that. No, by the sanctity of this grave, I am unable to pay it or something like that." Then Ibn Abbas went out with him and he relieved himself.
.
Likewise, the hadith of
Ibn Abbas when he supplicated and sought rain, and they were given rain, so the people began to rub themselves with him. ابن عباس لما دعا واستسقى فسقوا فأخذ الناس يتمسحون به
passed by me. I do not know, what is your guidance, O Shaykh?

The Shaykh : I do not know about the authenticity or the chains of narration of either of the two hadiths, but:
The first aspect: "The sanctity of this grave." The grave is the home of the Muslim. Just as the home of the Muslim in this world is respected, the grave of the Muslim is respected. For this reason, the scholars said: It is not permissible to bury a dead person on top of a dead person. For example, a grave that we dig up a second time to place another dead person in it; this is not permissible. As for the second rubbing, the rubbing: if this hadith is authentic, there is no practice based on it; there is no practice based on it. Because one does not seek blessing (tabarruk) from his sweat, or his clothing, or his hair, except from the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him).
