If a person is afflicted with a neighbor of bad character and weak in religion, is there a sin in making it clear to the neighbor that he should not visit us?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : If a person is afflicted with a bad neighbor of bad character and weak in religion, is there a sin in making it clear to this neighbor that we prefer he not visit us? I ask for your guidance.

The Shaykh : This is not appropriate. If the neighbor is afflicted with sins, we should not cut off ties with him. Rather, it is our right to maintain contact with him through advice and to win him over through da'wah (calling to Islam). We should invite him to us and go to him so that Allah, Mighty and Majestic, may guide him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
if one man is guided on the right path (i.e. converted to Islam) through you, it would be better for you than (a great number of) red camels. لأن يهدي الله بك رجلاً واحداً خير لك من حمر النعم
Sahih al-Bukhari 3701
So leaving this neighbor to his sins and transgressions is a great error. Rather, it is obligatory for us to advise him. When we go to his home and speak to him about the sin and disobedience he is engaged in, he may feel ashamed, or Allah may open his heart, and his guidance may come through our hands. But if we leave him to his own devices, there is no doubt that this is an error and a shortcoming on our part. And if it is obligatory for us to be good to our neighbor in material matters, then it is also our right to be good to him in what benefits him in his religion, such as advice, guidance, and mutual visits.
And it would be excellent if we gave him some small booklets that he can read quickly and easily, or some useful tapes, for Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, may benefit him through them.

The questioner : May Allah bless you.
