Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: [Indeed, for the righteous there is a place of victory... ] to the end of the surah.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow them with excellence until the Day of Judgment:
As for what follows: On this day, Thursday, the eighteenth of the month of Jumada al-Ula, in the year 1413, we meet with our brothers for the third time this month, and we ask Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, to make it a blessed and beneficial meeting.
We continue in the exegesis of Surat al-Naba, where we stopped at the saying of Allah the Exalted:
(31) Indeed, for the righteous is attainment - (32) Gardens and grapevines (33) And full-breasted [companions] of equal age
[An-Naba 78:31-33]
to the end of what Allah, Mighty and Majestic, mentioned.
These verses came after His saying:
(21) Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait (22) For the transgressors, a place of return,
[An-Naba 78:21-22]
, and that is because the Noble Qur'an is a repetition of matters; when reward is mentioned, punishment is mentioned, and when punishment is mentioned, reward is mentioned, and when the attributes of the believers are mentioned, the attributes of the disbelievers are mentioned, and so on, so that when a person reads the Qur'an, he is both desirous and fearful. When he reads what is in it of reward for the believers, he desires and hopes and anticipates, and when he reads what is in it of punishment for the disbelievers, he fears, so he proceeds toward Allah the Exalted between fear and hope, not feeling safe from the stratagem of Allah and not despairing of the mercy of Allah.
The Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "A person should be in his worship of his Lord between fear and hope, for whichever of the two prevails, its owner is destroyed".
He, Mighty and Majestic, says:
Indeed, for the righteous is attainment -
[An-Naba 78:31]
The righteous are those who feared the punishment of Allah, and that is by doing the commands of Allah and avoiding His prohibitions. Sometimes Allah commands His taqwa, sometimes He commands the taqwa of the Day of Reckoning, and sometimes He commands the taqwa of the Fire. Allah the Exalted said:
but fear Allah that you may be successful. (131) And fear the Fire
[Ali 'Imran 3:130-131]
, so He combined the command to fear Him with the command to fear the Fire, and He, the Exalted, said:
And fear a Day when you will be returned to Allah
[Al-Baqarah 2:281]
, so He commanded the taqwa of the Day of Reckoning.
And all of this revolves around one meaning, which is that a person should fear the prohibitions of his Lord, so he performs His obedience and refrains from His disobedience.
So the righteous are those who performed the commands of Allah and avoided the prohibitions of Allah. For these is a place of victory, and the mafaz is the place of victory and the time of victory as well, so they are victorious in their places and victorious in their days.
He, Mighty and Majestic, says:
Gardens and grapevines.
This is a type of the victory.
Gardens.
Meaning: Gardens with great trees, many trees, and varied trees.
And grapevines.
The plural of 'inab (grapes), and it is part of the gardens, but He singled it out for mention.
And young maidens of equal age.
Kaw'ib is the plural of ka'ib, which is the woman whose breasts are distinct and have not sagged, but have protruded and appeared like the hump of a camel, and this is the most perfect state of the beauty of the chest.
Of equal age.
Meaning: Of the same age, not differing from one another in age as the women of this world do, for if one of them differed from the other in age, perhaps the balance between them would be disturbed, and perhaps one of them would be sad because she did not equal the other, but they are of the same age.
And a cup of overflowing drink.
Meaning: A full cup, and the cup intended here is a cup of wine, and it may be of wine and other things, for Paradise is:
wherein are rivers of water unaltered, rivers of milk the taste of which never changes, rivers of wine delicious to those who drink, and rivers of purified honey
[Muhammad 47:15]
.
The full cup means: filled with wine, and it may be of wine and other things.
No ill speech will they hear therein or any falsehood -
[An-Naba 78:35]
: They do not hear in Paradise any idle talk, meaning: false speech in which there is no good,
Nor any lie.
, meaning: nor any lying, so they do not lie, nor does any of them lie to another, for they are on couches facing each other, and Allah has removed from their breasts any resentment and made them brothers.
[As] reward from your Lord, [a generous] gift [made due by] account,
[An-Naba 78:36]
Meaning: That they are rewarded with this reward from Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, for their good deeds which they did in this world and with which they feared the prohibitions of Allah.
And His, Mighty and Majestic, saying:
A sufficient gift.
, meaning: Sufficient, taken from al-hisab which is sufficiency, meaning: that this cup is a sufficient cup, they do not need anything else with it, due to the perfection of its pleasure and the completeness of its benefit.
Then He, Mighty and Majestic, said:
The Lord of the heavens and earth and that between them
[Ash-Shu'ara 26:24]
: So Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, is the Lord of everything. Allah the Exalted said:
I have only been commanded to worship the Lord of this city, who made it sacred and to whom [belongs] all things
[An-Naml 27:91]
, so He is the Lord of the seven heavens, and the Lord of the earth, which is seven, as that was established in the Sunnah from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
and what is between them.
, meaning: What is between the heavens and the earth of the great creations, such as clouds and mist, the celestial spheres, and other things that we know and that no one knows except Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He.
And His saying:
They possess not from Him [authority for] speech.
[An-Naba 78:37]
The Day that the Spirit
[An-Naba 78:38]
, and he is Jibril:
and the angels in rows.
meaning: In rows, row after row, for as it came in the hadith:
The angels of the lowest heaven descend and surround the creation, then the angels of the second heaven come behind them.
, then the third, then the fourth and fifth, and so on, in rows, and no one knows their number except He who created them, Glorified and Exalted is He.
The Day that the Spirit and the angels will stand in rows, they will not speak except for one whom the Most Merciful permits, and he will say what is correct.
[An-Naba 78:38]
Meaning: The angels do not speak, nor does anyone else, as He, the Exalted, said:
and [all] voices will be stilled before the Most Merciful, so you will not hear except a whisper [of footsteps].
[Taha 20:108]
.
except for whom the Most Merciful has permitted.
With speech, for he speaks as he is permitted.
and who says what is right.
Meaning: He said a correct statement in accordance with the pleasure of Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, and that is by intercession, when Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, permits someone to intercede, he intercedes in what he is permitted to intercede in, according to what he is permitted.
Allah the Exalted said:
That is the Day of Truth.
Meaning: That which We have informed you about is the Day of Truth, and truth is the opposite of falsehood, meaning: The established day in which truth is established and justice is established,
(88) The Day when there will not benefit [anyone] wealth or children (89) But only one who comes to Allah with a sound heart." يَوْمَ لا يَنْفَعُ مَالٌ وَلا بَنُونَ * إِلَّا مَنْ أَتَى اللَّهَ بِقَلْبٍ سَلِيمٍ
[Ash-Shu'ara 26:88-89]
May Allah help me and you on that day.
so he who wills may take to his Lord a [way of] return.
[An-Naba 78:39]
Meaning: Whoever wills, he does a deed by which he returns to Allah, and he returns to Allah by it, and that is the good deed in accordance with the pleasure of Allah the Exalted.
And His saying:
so he who wills may take to his Lord a [way of] return.
[An-Naba 78:39]
: I have qualified it with another verse, which is His saying, the Exalted:
(28) For whoever wills among you to take a right course. (29) And you do not will except that Allah wills - Lord of the worlds.
[At-Takwir 81:28-29]
meaning: That we have the choice in what we go to, no one compels us to anything, but with that, our choice and our will and our desire return to Allah:
And you do not will except that Allah wills
[Al-Insan 76:30]
, and Allah the Exalted only mentioned that in His Book so that a person does not rely on himself and his will, but knows that it is connected to the will of Allah, so that he turns to Allah in asking for guidance to what He loves and is pleased with, not that a person says: I am free, I want what I want and I act as I want. We say: The matter is so, but you are bound by the will of Allah, Mighty and Majestic.
Then He, the Exalted, said:
Indeed, We have warned you of a near punishment
[An-Naba 78:40]
The Day of Resurrection is, in reality, near, O our brothers, and even if millions of years remained in this world, it is near:
It will be, on the Day they see it, as though they had not remained [in the world] except for an afternoon or a morning thereof.
[An-Nazi'at 79:46]
, so this punishment of which Allah has warned us is near, and between a person and it is only that he dies, and a person does not know when he will die, he may become morning and not reach evening, or become evening and not reach morning, for this reason it is upon us to be decisive in our deeds, and to take advantage of the opportunity before it is too late.
on the Day when a man will observe what his hands have put forth
[An-Naba 78:40]
[It will be said], "Read your record. Sufficient is yourself against you this Day as accountant."
[Al-Isra 17:14]
.
And the disbeliever, from the intensity of what he sees of terror and what he witnesses of punishment, says:
Oh, I wish that I were dust!" يَا لَيْتَنِي كُنتُ تُرَابًا
[An-Naba 78:40]
Meaning: I wish I had not been created, or I wish I had not been resurrected, or when he sees the animals between which Allah judges, then he says: Be dust, so it becomes dust, at that time he wishes to be like the animals, so his saying:
Oh, I wish that I were dust!" يَا لَيْتَنِي كُنتُ تُرَابًا
[An-Naba 78:40]
carries three meanings:
The first meaning:
Oh, I wish that I were dust!" يَا لَيْتَنِي كُنتُ تُرَابًا
[An-Naba 78:40]
Meaning: So I was not created, for the human being was created from dust.
The second meaning:
Oh, I wish that I were dust!" يَا لَيْتَنِي كُنتُ تُرَابًا
[An-Naba 78:40]
So I was not resurrected, meaning: I was dust in the cavities of the graves.
Or the third meaning: That when he sees the animals between which Allah judged and said to them: Be dust, so they became dust, he said:
Oh, I wish that I were dust!" يَا لَيْتَنِي كُنتُ تُرَابًا
[An-Naba 78:40]
Meaning: Like these animals, and Allah knows best.
And up to here ends Surat al-Naba, and in it are admonitions and wisdoms and verses of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, that are a cause for certainty and faith. We ask Allah to benefit us and you with His Book, and to make it an admonition for our hearts and a healing for what is in our breasts, for He is Generous and Kind, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow them with excellence until the Day of Judgment.
Now, to the questions, if anyone has a question, and we start from the right.
