What is the ruling on wiping over socks if one takes off a pair and puts on another?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Peace be upon you, and Allah's mercy and blessings.

The Shaykh : And upon you be peace, and Allah's mercy and blessings.

The questioner : O Shaykh, I performed wudu' while wearing socks, then I took them off and put on another pair. What is the ruling?

The Shaykh : As long as you remain in a state of purity, you may pray as much as you wish. However, if your purity is broken, you must take off the last pair of socks and wash your feet.

The questioner : The socks got dirty once, then I performed wudu' and wiped over them, then I took them off and put on another pair.

The Shaykh : When did you put them on?

The questioner : After I performed wudu'.

The Shaykh : Did you perform a complete wudu'?

The questioner : Yes, and I wiped over the first pair of socks, then took them off and put on another pair?

The Shaykh : And you were in the state of wudu' in which you wiped?

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : That is not valid. That is, you do not wipe over the subsequent pairs. There is no harm in remaining in a state of purity, but you do not wipe over this one. Do you understand me?

The questioner : Yes, if Allah wills.
And all praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions. May Allah return us and you to such occasions in a good state.

The questioner : Does wiping require an intention, O Shaykh, before putting them on?

The Shaykh : No, no, it is not necessary.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good, O Shaykh.

The Shaykh : May Allah bless you.
