The questioner : The honorable Shaykh, I heard a hadith from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to the effect that it is recommended to recite Surat Yasin when visiting graves, and I have heard from your program that reciting the Qur'an at graves is not permissible, so please clarify this for us, may you be rewarded?

The Shaykh : Yes, the matter is as you heard in the program, that reciting at graves is not prescribed, because it was not reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family). Rather, what is prescribed when visiting the cemetery is to say what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said, and among that is:
Peace be upon you, O people of this abode, from among the believers and the Muslims, and we, if Allah wills, are to follow you. May Allah have mercy on those of you who have gone before and those who come after. We ask Allah for well-being for us and for you. O Allah, do not deprive us of their reward, and do not test us after them, and forgive us and them.
. Yes.

The questioner : In a final segment, the listener Ahmad says.
