Supplication When Visiting Graves

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 5924 )
Q: I ask Allah, then I ask Your Eminence, to issue a ruling to me regarding the supplication that is obligatory for me to make for the deceased, such as my parents, my relatives, and the Muslims in general. May Allah guide you to all good, and peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.
A: It is established from the hadith of Buraydah ibn al-Husayb (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:
the Prophet (ﷺ) taught us that when we visit graves we should say, “Peace be upon you, O believing men and women, O dwellers of this place. Certainly, Allah willing, we will join you. We supplicate to Allah to grant us and you well being.”
Bulugh al-Maram 594
It was narrated by Muslim and others. It is also established from the hadith of A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her), in which she said:
whenever it was her turn for God's messenger to spend the night with her he would go out towards the end of the night to al-Baqi' and say, “Peace be upon you, household of a people who are believers. What you were being promised will come to you tomorrow, you receiving it after some delay, and if God will we shall join you. O God, grant forgiveness to the inhabitants of Baqi' al- Gharqad.”
Mishkat al-Masabih 1766
It was also narrated by Muslim. And in the hadith of A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her), it is mentioned that he (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say in his supplication:
May He have mercy on those of us who have gone before and those who come after.
.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions.
